Heraldry:

O'Tighearnaigh (O'Tierney)
The coat of arms used as the generic one listed by most heraldry
organizations.
This shield was recorded for an O'Tierney family, long user thereof. Some
sources attribute it to a Limerick family and others to an Ulster family.
The only individual listed in the Annals of the Four Masters is Flann
O'Tighearnaigh (O'Tierney), Lord of Carra, in present day County Mayo.

Mac Tighearnain (McTiernan)
This coat of arms is listed as that of McTiernan but is more commonly used for
McKiernan.

Ua Ruairc (O'Rourke)
There were at least 17 different Tighearnan Ua Ruairc (Tiernan O'Rourke)
individuals of Breifne. It is also apparent the Mac Tighearnain family shield is
based on the Ua Ruairc shield.

Ua Conchobhair (O'Conor of Connaught)
There were several Tighearnan Ua Conchobhair (Tiernan O'Conor) individuals
listed in the Annals of the Four Masters.

Sir Matthew Tierney (Sussex)
This coat of arms belonged to Sir Matthew Tierney, baronet, physician to King George III
and William IV. Matthew Tierney was born in County Limerick.

Sir Edward Tierney (Limerick)
This coat of arms was granted to Sir Edward Tierney, baronet, who inherited his brother
Matthew's patient. Edward Tierney was born in County Limerick.
